2016 National Youth Games: Kwara dominates Table Tennis event

Iyanu Falana won gold for the hosts, Kwara after defeating compatriot Sukurat Aiyelagan in the final of the in the female table tennis’ singles category of the ongoing National Youth Games.

Following 4-2 lost to Falana, Aiyelagan settled for silver, while Delta’s Habibat Olawale as well as Yetunde Jimoh of Kwara both got the bronze medals.

For boys singles final, Olaimilekan Habeeb Jigawa won 3-2 to beat Ekechukwu Stanley Delta, while Omotayo Samuel from Kwara and Abdurahim Sani from Jigawa won bronze.

In the boys para-singles, Kwara’s Igioye Emmanuel snatched the gold from silver-winner Ogunjimi Oluwaseyi as Emmanuel Joseph of Rivers got bronze.

Popoola Mariam of Ogun, Aiyelabagan Tayo of Kano and Nkwocha Amarachi of Imo won gold, silver and bronze respectively in the girls para-singles category.

In the girls double event, Kwara won gold through Falana and Sukurat after condemning Akintunde Esther and Lawal Remilekan of Ogun to a silver finish.

For the bronze medals, Jaja Philomina and Olawale Habibat of Delta and Echson Patience and Raymond Faith of Adamawa to the third-place prizes.

On the overall, the hosts topped the medals table for the Table Tennis event with six medals – three gold, two silver and one bronze.

Ogun came second with one gold and three silver while Delta came third with one gold and one silver with two bronze medals.

Jigawa had one gold medal to place fourth while Rivers had two bronze medals to place fifth.

Imo, Bauchi, Adamawa, Plateau and Yobe all had one bronze medal each to be joint sixth on the medals table.
