Council of Nigerian Institute of Journalism appoints new officers

The Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has appointed a new Provost, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, and Deputy Provost, Mr. Jide Johnson, for the outfit.

In a statement by the registrar and secretary to the governing council, Dotun Adenijo, the appointment of the duo is a portrayal of its commitment to enhance the repositioning and boosting the institution’s ability to churn out media practitioners and managers.

The appointment of the new officials takes effect from March 1, 2015.

The tenure of the incumbent Provost, Dr. Elizabeth Ikem, expires at the end of February 2015 after which Ogunleye succeeds her. He is presently the deputy director of News, TVC News International.

Prior to this, he held the position of director, News and Current Affairs, TVC, Chief Standards Editor and Associate.

He was the Deputy Editor in Chief of The Punch Newspaper, Editor, Daily Times, Features Editor, A.M News, Acting Features Editor, The Guardian, Times and the pioneer Head, Corporate Communications, Arik Air.
