There are no plans to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos state house of assembly has said – The house of assembly said the governor has not done anything to warrant impeachment – Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the house, said he had received telephone calls and enquiries from prominent members of the public over the alleged impeachment.

The Lagos state house of assembly on Monday, October 22, debunked speculations that it was plotting to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday. He said the governor has not done anything to warrant such treatment.

“We have been alleged to have started an impeachment process on our governor. We are not embarking on any impeachment process. Mr Governor hasn’t done anythin to warrant such.

“Impeachment is constitutional. It is not an offense if we embark on it but there is no basis for it now. We will only do this if there is the need for it. “We don’t need wailers to advise us on how we go about our duties. The process has no secrecy, it is done in the open.We are only answerable to the people of Lagos and the electorate that elected us.

“All wailers, this is to you that you can’t teach us our job. There’s nothing like impeachment for now let me put it that way. We are working in harmony with our gov to move the state forward,” he said in the statement.

The speaker also denied the rumour while speaking at the beginning of plenary. He said that there was no truth in the rumour. He revealed that he had received telephone calls and enquiries from prominent members of the public over the alleged impeachment moves against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

According to him, Solidarity Group of Nigeria and a faction of the APC in Lagos state, led by Mr. Fuad Oki had been insinuating that the lawmakers in the state threatened Governor Ambode to open the state treasury for them, and that they threatened to impeach him if he failed to do so.

“We are not embarking on any impeachment process against the Governor now. If there would be an impeachment, it would be from the governor and if there would not be any need for impeachment, it would be from him based on his actions.

“Even at that, impeachment is constitutional, so many speakers, senate presidents, presidents and others have been impeached all over the world. So, nobody can threaten us if it happens because we are representatives of the people. “We don’t need the wailers to guide us in performing our duties. It is not out of place for us to do our job,” he said.
