Kogi To Provide Basic Amenities for Rural Dwellers

Rural and Community development has been described as fundamental to the present administration in Kogi State.

Capt Idris Wada, the State Governor stated this when he received a team of experts in various fields from the United Nations Industrial Organization who were in the State to design a master plan structure for the stable crop processing zone in Alape Community in Kogi State

The Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, who received the team on behalf of the Governor, described the UNIDO’s team as novel, disclosed that in view of the importance attached to the project, an interim project implementation committee would soon be constituted to oversee the running of the project.

While noting that the project cannot be successful without the support of the host community, government, Capt Wada disclosed is engaging the community to put in place a process that would enable the area have a workable master plan.

Capt. Wada explained that government would be resolute in making sure that the problem of access road, power supply and the need to have a central sewage collection centre in the processing zone is addressed.

Capt. Wada pointed out that his administration’s commitment to transform the face of Agriculture in the State is anchored on the sectors ability to provide employment for the State’s teaming youths and women, added that the State’s comparative advantage as the highest cassava producing State in Nigeria would encourage the concentration of Agro-processing industries in the State, thereby increasing income of the people and revenue to the State.

While he pledged government’s support to look into the problems of having a weather information system in Alape, a central sewage system and an acceptable data collection system in the stable crop processing zone, Capt. Wada assured that the school of Agriculture Kabba and the yet to be completed vocational centre in Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, been built by KOICA in the State polytechnic, would serve as a technology and centre of excellence for Alape stable crop processing zone.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Oyesola Oyebanji, Team leader of the experts said the 250 hectares Agriculture Investment in Alape is first of its kind, described Kogi as lucky to already have KAGIL a core investor driving the project. Dr. Oyesola said the team was in the State to prepare a master plan for the processing zone in view of the several expected agro-industry the zone would attract.

Also speaking, Dr. Femi Abolarin, Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture, said the need to have a master plan in the Alape stable crop processing zone follows the lot of investment the area is billed to witness, commended the commitment and passion so far shown by the Capt. Idris Wada led administration to Agriculture.
