Nkechi Obi, the Nigeria Women Football League’s chief executive officer, has disclosed that the body will welcome support from women-centric cooperate brands as partners to lift the women’s game.

She stressed that the NWFL are currently in an aggressive sponsorship drive, but insists they are momentarily aiming to make women’s game into an attractive brand for sponsors.

“What we are trying to do is to show corporate organizations that there is an opportunity for them to showcase their brands,” Obi told SavidNews.

“The key thing for us is to build the product. You can’t sell if you don’t have a product. So we are saying people are going to come to the stadium and we can sell brands.

“We want to regular to find a valuable buyer. If we are regular, we can plan our marketing. We are creating opportunities and when the opportunities for created, corporate organizations will not hesitate to partner with you.

“There is an opportunity for women’s centric brands to get involved. Who does the buying in the house? It is the woman. Our strategies are based on sisterhood.

“There are women out there who have achieved and are looking for how to support other women. We are promoting ourselves as sister helping sister.

“Women want to play football, make a career off it and take care of their families. If you say you then, you should be able to join hands with us because we are involving in women development.

“We have gone places to present our proposals in a bid to attract sponsorships for the league. We’ve got footage of women games showing the stadium half filled which is good for us. This is the experience because they will see and believe in the product we are selling.

“With over two thousand people at one stadium, our intending sponsors have the chance to talk to about two thousand people in one stadium and 15, 000 in one week at eight venues across the country and over 300,000 in a full season.

“You can’t just go and say because that I’m a woman, give me money. No, it doesn’t work because there are many women out there in entertainment, music, and fashion who have already established themselves, so why should we give you.

“But we have a product now, those who want to sell will look at the video and see that there are women and men here to watch games and so, let’s put our tent here.

“In the next few weeks, we are going to do a lot, we will have our Super Four which will have sponsors. But by next season, we will see corporate organisations who will experiment with this season. So, we are working very hard.”
