The Hornets striker has been rewarded for his fine form last month, seeing off strong competition to win the coveted prizes.

In-form striker Ighalo struck five times for the Hornets, with a brace against Liverpool and goals against Norwich, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Nigerian international also found the net against Chelsea, but the goal was later credited as a Gary Cahill own-goal following a deflection off the England defender.

Mesut Ozil, Marko Arnautovic, Riyad Mahrez, Romelu Lukaku and Dele Alli were the other players shortlisted for the Player of the Month award.

Meanwhile, Ighalo’s manager, Flores was named Manager of the Month, beating fellow nominees Arsene Wenger, Claudio Ranieri and Alan Pardew after he guided the Golden Boys to three important wins during a busy festive schedule.
