Russia: Musa scores in CSKA Victory

Reigning champions CSKA Moscow recorded their second win in the new Russian Premier League season, beating city rivals Lokomotiv 2-1. CSKA moved on to seven points from three matches to join Rostov in second place, two points behind leaders Spartak Moscow.

Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda put CSKA into an 18th minute lead, beating Lokomotiv goalkeeper Marinato Guilherme with a precise free kick from distance.

In the 74th minute Lokomotiv were awarded a penalty after CSKA wingback Mark Gonzalez fouled Taras Mykhalik in his box. Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev confidently saved Alexander Samedov’s effort.

However, Lokomotiv midfielder Dmitry Tarasov levelled a minute later, scoring with a close-range header from the resulting corner.

Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa netted CSKA’s winning goal with eight minutes left, firing in a rebound after Côte d’Ivoire striker Seydou Doumbia saw a shot bounce back off the woodwork.

Big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala drew 1-1 with Krylya Sovetov in their first match under new head coach Rene Meulensteen, who took the reins after Guus Hiddink resigned earlier this week.

Anzhi skipper Samuel Eto’o put his side into the lead in the 59th minute finishing in the six-yard box after Willian’s incisive pass. But the hosts levelled through midfielder Roman Vorobyov, who fired in with the aid of a deflection.

The other game of the day saw Terek Grozny and Rubin Kazan share the points in a goalless draw.
