Leader of the enforcement team, Tax Controller, Micro and Small Tax Officer, Lokoja, Kogi State, Mr James Akinloye Akinfenwa, said the enforcement was to ensure tax compliance and also put defaulters in check.

He said seven companies had been sealed off for tax defaulting-related offences, saying the company would only be reopened after the defaulting companies had either paid the tax or written an undertaken on when and how to pay.

According to him, “the enforcement would make tax payers be alive to their responsibilities, as it relates to tax payment. It will also help to generate revenue for the Federal Government, as many companies will now comply with tax payment.”

He explained that the law that established FIRS empowered it to seal off business environment of any company that defaulted in tax payment, insisting that their actions were within the law.
