2013 COSAFA Cup : South Africa, Lesotho crashes out

South Africa and Lesotho have been knocked out of the 2013 COSAFA Cup for member-nations of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations and some invited teams from outside the region.

South Africa lost 5-3 on penalties to Zambia, after both teams deadlocked 0-0 in regulation and extra time play in the second semi-final at the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.

South Africa’s coach Gordon Igesund later congratulated tournament host Zambia for the victory, but said: ‘I am just disappointed for the boys because I would have loved to see them in the final because they gave their all.”

Earlier in the first semi-final, at the same venue, defending champion Zimbabwe defeated Lesotho 2-1.

South Africa and Lesotho will meet in the third-place match on Saturday at the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium, which is also the venue of the final on the same day between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
