2014 Kwara State Governor Cup begins on May 6

Arrangements have been concluded for the 2014 Kwara Governor’s Cup, the State’s Football Association Chairman, Mallam Busari Ishola, has said.

Mallam Ishola in Ilorin on Friday said the preliminary draw would take place May 6, in Ilorin.

He added that preliminary matches would commence on May 12, among all the 16 local government areas of Kwara with the final scheduled for May 29, to commemorate Democracy Day 2014.

The Kwara FA boss disclosed that matches in the preliminary stage of the competition would be played in four zones.

He highlighted the zones to be Kaiama, Afon, Offa and Share.

According to Ishola, Kaiama zone will host Ilorin East and West, Asa and Oyun local governments while Afon zone will play host to Ifelodun, Irepodun, Kaiama and Baruten.

Others he said include Oke Ero, Isin, Ekiti and Moro local governments in Offa zone with Patigi, Ilorin South, Offa and Edu in Share zone.

Mallam Ishola while shedding more lights on the competition said the best two teams from each group would make it to the quarter final which will be play in different zones.

The Kwara FA boss further said that the semi-final and final will be played at the Kwara Stadium.

He noted that all the Sports Officers from the 16 local government councils have been invited for the drawings.

He said the competition has been rebranded and that the aim this year is to scout for players for both Kwara United and Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS FC).

Ishola emphasized the need to return to the grassroots to scout for talented football players, saying some of the country’s soccer heroes were discovered at the grassroots.

The competition according to him is sponsored by the association.
