2015 Polls: We are ready, say Police, INEC, security personnel

The Bauchi State Police Command, political parties and their candidates, as well as the INEC officials have declared their readiness for today’s elections.

Our correspondent, NANKPAH BWAKAN reports from BAUCHI that the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammed Haruna said the command has mapped out strategies to ensure a peaceful election today and on April 11, pointing out that one of them include a Peace Accord signed by the parties and their candidates.

According to him, the police had trained and retrained its officers to ensure that the elections are credible, peaceful and orderly, adding: “The training covered crowd control, arrest, protection of lives and property, respect for human rights and civility to members of the public.”

On its part, INEC announced that of the more than 2million registered voters, the commission had distributed 19,081 PVCs, regretting however that some are yet to be collected by their owners.

He also said the commission trained and retained 16, 000 ad-hoc staff to assist in conducting the elections, adding that both sensitive and non sensitive material have already arrived the state to be released to the commission 24 hours to the elections.
