New Abia Warriors head coach Kennedy Boboye has expressed delight with the quality of the team and has singled out the midfield for special praise ahead of the start of the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League.

The Umuahia club looked quite impressive in their recent pre-season tournament win in Ibadan after amassing a total of eight points from four games in a competition that also featured Shooting Stars SC, Sunshine Stars, MFM FC and Remo Stars.

It was a tournament that saw football fans at the Lead City University Stadium getting a feel of some of the best players on the domestic scene.

And Boboye says his pre-season plan and how he wants the team to play is gradually coming together, especially in the middle.

“The team is playing quite well especially in the midfield where my focus was throughout our stay in Ibadan,” Boboye told Goal.

“The performance of the team especially in the midfield department looked good and I hope it continues like that,” he added.

Abia Warriors have brought in a couple of players to power their ambition of earning a continental ticket at the end of the next season.

Boboye has only just joined the club from Sunshine Stars, replacing Ladan Bosso and his first competitive assignment will be away to newly promoted Ikorodu United on February 21, when the new season gets underway.
