Adama Advocates Local Names for Clubs, Bags Award

The Chairman of Kogi United and Confluence Queens FC, Mallam Abdul Adama says Nigeria football will be better if the country adopts domestic concepts in naming football clubs.

Mallam Adama stated this in his home town, Idah at the end of a final match tagged “Champions League Football” between Barcelona of Idah LGA and Real Madrid of Igalamela/Odolu LGA in Kogi East Senatorial district of Kogi State.

According to him, “I cannot help developing grassroots football with foreign names – it’s high time we began adopting names of iconic traditional personalities or places against the promotion of foreign clubs,” he said.

While praising the performances displayed by both team, he described the outcome of the finals as opening to good days to come for football in Igalaland and Kogi State.

The Idah-born Football Administrator however, hailed the winning and losing sides, Real Madrid of Igalamela/Odolu LGA and Barcelona of Idah LGA respectively, while urging them to do better next time as there is always room for improvement.

He further cautioned the football lovers who thronged the pitch to eschew encroachment of pitch, noting that such act only portray the fans as not civilized.

Mallam Abdul Adama however bagged an award for the meritorious and selfless-service rendered to the development of football in the area.

He also exercised his philanthropic generosity when he doled out cash award to each of the two-finalist, while the best player of the tournament, highest goals scorer and best goalkeeper smiled home with their own cash prizes.
