The Minister of Sports/Chairman, National Sports Commission, Tammy Danagogo has urged the Super Eagles to redouble their effort in order to overcome the South African obstacle as they battle the Bafana Bafana in the second of their Africa Nations Cup qualifier in Cape Town on Wednesday.

Dr. Danagogo was speaking at the backdrop of the Super Eagles 3-2 home defeat in Calabar last Saturday in the hands of the Red Devils of Congo when they opened their campaign in the qualifiers.

He said that rather than weigh them down, the defeat should spur them to put in extra effort to reassure Nigerians that they are capable of qualifying for the competition and defend their deserved victory of the Nations Cup which they won last year.

“I urge the Super Eagles not to let the loss to Congo distract them from training harder to ensure they defeat South Africa in Cape Town,” he said.

The Minister added that “If they remain focused and not allow the defeat by Congo to weigh them down, I believe they can muster enough determination to beat South Africa in their home.”

He also used the opportunity to call on soccer loving Nigerians to continue to support the team despite the loss to Congo, adding “this is the time they need the support and prayer of Nigerians for the task ahead”.
