The governor and his deputy were on their way to Tarka and Gboko local government areas to flag off a tree-planting and road construction campaigns and were in the same vehicle when a Toyota Carina car from Gboko failed to stop to make way for the governor’s convoy.

As the driver of the Toyota car attempted to avoid some vehicles its driver had a head-on collision with the governor’s security vehicle, resulting in the latter somersaulting three times.

It was gathered that the same Toyota Carina ran into the vehicle conveying the governor and his deputy at Angbaye.

Newswatch Times correspondent who was in a vehicle behind the governor’s convoy witnessed the governor and his deputy’s rescue operation which was extended to three of the security aides who sustained injuries. At the scene, the governor ordered that the nine injured persons be taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

Giving details of the accident to the people of Wohiev where he flagged off a N2.2 billion road construction project planned to link Ikpe, Wohiev and Igbor in Tarka, Gboko and Gwer local government areas, Governor Suswam said God saved his life so as to make the construction of the road a reality.

He said God saved this life on the eve of his 50th birthday and assured the people that he would commission the 36 kilometre road before he leaves office on May 29, 2015.
