Benue Police Command arrests 39 criminals, parades 29 in Makurdi

The Benue State Police Command has Tuesday paraded a total number 29 suspected criminals at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi.
Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Hyacinth Dagala said some of them were arrested jointly and separately for various offences on different days.

Dagala disclosed that their offences included Criminal Conspiracy, Maiming of Animals, Thefts, Receiving Stolen Property, Human Trafficking, Kidnapping, Illegal Possession of Firearms, Armed Robbery, Culpable Homicide, among others.

Dagala who particularly picked out one of the suspects named Onyia Chia, said he specialized in human trafficking.

He disclosed that Chia picked his victims from different states of the country, deformed them and forced them to beg for alms to be remitted to him at the end of the day.

The CP said luck however, ran out on the trafficker at Ladipo Market in Lagos where two of his victims, Mimidoo Tyosu and Blessing Moses whom he picked from Benue for the ‘business’ were rescued by the founder of “Hands That Care Foundation”, Evangelist Jacintha Nwore.

Dagala said the victims led Nwore and security agents to their captor who was arrested in Benue.

Reports had that the suspects were paraded with different dangerous weapons ranging from rifles with many rounds of live ammunition, locally made revolver pistols to matchetes and sticks.

Earlier in a press briefing by the CP, he disclosed that about 39 criminals had been arrested by officers and men of the Command after the general elections.

He confessed that criminal activities were quick to pick up after the general elections but boasted that the Command did not spear the criminals too.

Dagala stated that the police would not relent in beaming their searchlight on criminals and their hideouts to tame the activities of criminal elements in the state.

He assured that his men would continue to partner with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure that crimes and criminality were brought to their barest minimum.

He therefore, solicited for the cooperation of members of the public to give police useful information that could help in freeing our environment of criminal activities.

He warned all criminals to change or relocate from the state as the Command was resolute in rooting them out.
