BREAKING: 2016 National Sports Festival Will Hold From November 8–21

The National Sports Festival will take place in the city of Calaber from November 8th – 21st, 2016.

The date was announced on Sunday, the Closing day of the Extra-Ordinary National Council on Sports meeting held at the Tinapa Lakeside Hotel, Calabar, Cross River State.

Sports Minister Solomon Dalung called for increased investment in sports development by all tiers of governments in the country.

The Minister urged Federal, States and Local Governments to explore the potentials of sports by making it a priority as well as commit adequate resources to sport development; arguing that failure to do so is a recipe for encouraging crime, youth restiveness and anti-social behavior.

According to him, sports is not only bolster national image, it is the strongest weapon for promoting peace, unity and national integration.

He said it is not for nothing that Nigerians forget their differences anytime Nigeria is playing football with another country.

The Minister also reiterated its appeal to Corporate Bodies,local and foreign investors, religious organizations, philanthropists and the well-to-do in the society to invest in sports as their contribution to youth development.

Earlier, the minister of sports, alongside the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut, State Sports Commissioner Comrade Asu Okang and other state Directors of Sports and Commissioners embarked on an inspection tour of sports facilities in Calabar for the forthcoming National Sports Festival.

Dalung expressed optimism that the renovation and upgrading of facilities will be completed and a tentative date fixed before the deadline for hosting the festival.
