Nigeria’s beach soccer forward Abu Azeez says his side can surpass their previous quarter-final best in the Beach Soccer World Cup scheduled from April 27 – May 7, 2017 in the Bahamas.

Nigeria finished as runners-up after crumbling 8-4 in the 2016 African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations final to Senegal were handed Italy, Mexico and yet to determined Asian champions in Group C of the preliminary stages.

And the Enyimba player described the draw as fair after they avoided European giants like Portugal and Switzerland, but insists his side can only impress in the Bahamas with early and quality preparation.

“It is a very good and fair draw for us,” Azeez told SavidNews. He continued: “At the moment, it was good we avoided Portugal and Switzerland though we may still meet any of them if we progress from the group stage.

“I believe we have the quality to surpass the quarterfinal if we get the right the preparation.

“We have a fair group. Firstly, Italy is a very experienced and tactical side. They are Europeans and would want to avoid meeting us.

“So we on the other side have to be very skeptical avoiding what happened at Copa Lagos against Switzerland and we have to be 100% focused.

“For Mexico, I think we played against them in a friendly match some years back and I also think this will be their first World Cup and we are more experienced.

“But we won’t let that get into our heads, remembering we failed to qualify in the last two editions, we hope to get a fair team as our last opponents.

“Then, I hope we get together on time to get used to each other and make a lot of corrections in our games before the main tournament.

“For going to the Bahamas, I have always dreamt about it since I heard the World Cup will be played there. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing a massive and beautiful environment.”

The Supersand Eagles have reached the quarterfinal at two editions before crashing out and will be making their fifth appearances this term after a back-to-back absence.
