Caf Confederation Cup: Enyimba handed tricky quarterfinal challenge against Guinea's Horoya

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigerian side Enyimba have been drawn against Guinean giants Horoya in the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup held today Wednesday, 5 February 2020, at the Hilton Pyramids Golf Hotel in Egypt.

The draw means Enyimba will become the third Nigerian club in history to meet the Guinean champions in the second round of the competition.

Horoya had previously met Shooting Stars and Leventis United at this stage of the competition, with the Guinean side eliminating the Ibadan based side in 1978, but crashed on away goal rule to Leventis in 1985.

The meeting between Enyimba and Horoya has been spiced up by Nigeran striker Bolaji Sakin, who plays for the Guinean club.

Enyimba is to host the first leg in their Aba township stadium Nigeria, on March 1st with the reverse fixture a week later.

The draw also saw Libyan side Al Nasr drawn against Hassania Agadir of Morocco, and Al Masry of Egypt pitched against another Morroccan side RS Berkane.

In the Caf Champions League, Al Ahly (2012 and 2013) and Espérance Sportive de Tunis (2018 and 2019) are the only teams to be crowned CAF champions two consecutive times during the last decade.

The last time a CAF Champions League side ended their group stage outing without a defeat, Esperance were crowned champions.

The most anticipated of the fixtures could be Al Ahly who will be looking to avenge last year’s 5-0 drubbing they suffered at the hands of Sundowns as they are drawn against South Africa flag-bearer, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The first leg will be in Cairo, and the second leg will be in Tshwane. The last time the two sides met in this competition was last season. Masandawana won 5-1 on aggregate. Who will win this time?

Espérance will face Zamalek, while Etoile du Sahel will battle Wydad, with both Tunisian sides scheduled to play the second leg ties at home.

Here is the remainder of CAF Champions League draw.
