El-Rufai announces free education for Primary, secondary students in Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared free education policy for primary and Secondary Schools students in the state.

El-Rufai made this announcement during a three-day meeting for his Commissioners and Special Advisers at the Fifth Chukker Polo Ground, along Kaduna-Saminaka Express Way.

He said the free education policy worth 13.7 billion naira yearly would relieve parents of the burden of tuition fees, school uniforms, feeding at the state boarding schools every year.

The governor strongly warned that any principal who collects any form of fees from parents would be made to face the law and had described as fraudulent the 3.7 billion naira allegedly spent on school fees by the immediate past PDP government in the state.

The former FCT minister disclosed that three sets of school uniforms for 1.1 million pupils in primary schools and learning materials would glup about 9 billion naira, while about 3.7 billion naira has been earmarked for fees and feeding of over 3,780 Junior Secondary Schools students across the state.

He further explained that the state would spend about 200 million naira in each term as school fees while supplement for boarding schools feeding would cost another 200 million per term for students.

El-Rufai announced that about 5,000 local tailors would be tasked to produce the single type uniforms for all the schools in the state, stressing the intent of creating jobs for local entrepreneurs in Kaduna State.
