Daily Independent reports that the cold war between the Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, and his erstwhile Director General, Gbenga Elegbeleye, ended on Wednesday as the DG was transferred out of the ministry.

Speculations were rife all through the weekend that the DG has been sacked, but by Monday the DG denied that he has been sacked.

But on Wednesday, the battle ended as Elegbeleye was moved to Leadership and Citizenship Commission as Director General.

Alhassan Yakmut will act as DG National Sports Commission until a substantive DG will be appointed.

Sources revealed that Elegbeleye was to be sacked out rightly but his political future was put into consideration, hence he was moved to the leadership commission.

“There were pressure from Elegbelye backers to give him soft landing, if not he was to be sacked,” noted the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Elegbeleye has been having a running battle with the minister for some time.

The former DG National Sports Commission was said to have refused to carry out posting within the sports ministry at the instance of the minister.

He was also alleged not to favour the return of Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, when the presidency wanted him at all cost.

Efforts to get Elegbeleye failed as his number was switched off.

But one of his aids, Segun Ogunjimi, denied that he has been moved out of the sports ministry and also all the allegations made against him.
