Nigeria international Esther Sunday has completed a one-year deal with reigning Turkish women topflight champions Ataşehir Belediyespor.
The 26-year-old moved to Konak Belediyespor in 2016 playing two seasons before the five-time champions failed to retain the league title last season, at the expense of rivals Ataşehir.
Sunday scored 20 times in 27 games for Konak during her two-year spell and is looking forward to playing again in the Champions League, having signed a one-year deal with the Turkish queens.
“I have joined Atasehir for a one-year deal and feel so happy signing for them,” Sunday told Goal.
“It is my dream to play in the UEFA Women’s Champion league again and eager to make the best of this opportunity with the club.
“I am here to help them succeed in the coming season and put smiles on the faces of the fans and coaching crew by scoring a lot of goals with the support of my teammates.”
Sunday has featured for Nigeria at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2010 and 2012, while at the senior level, she took part in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and has represented the country at the African Women Cup of Nations tournaments in 2010, 2012 and 2014, winning it twice.
Ataşehir Belediyespor had finished top of the Turkish Women Football League last season with 50 points, 5 ahead of runners-up Beşiktaş and qualified for the 2018/19 UEFA Women Champions League.
And the former Minsk forward has teamed up with fellow African compatriot and Cameroonian Henriette Akaba in preparation for the 2018-19 season, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers which commence in August.
The Turkish champions will rely on Sunday’s signing when they battle it out at the group stages with Czech’s Slavia Praha, hosts MTK Hungaria and Kosovo’s Mitrovica in Group D at New Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium in the bid to reach the round of 32.
