Family United By Sports award excites Badminton boss Francis Orbih

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Mr. Francis Orbih has expressed delight for the honour bestowed on him by the Family United by Sport (FUBS) during the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Cup week held at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.

The OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD was accorded Orbih in recognition of his sterling and revolutionary leadership at the BFN that has witnessed fresh infusion of life into the game of badminton in Nigeria since his assumption into office a year ago.

The BFN boss expressed appreciation to FUBS for the award, which is the first he is getting outside badminton circle. “I am happy for this recognition and this will surely reenergize and motivate me to face the task of repositioning badminton in Nigeria for sustainable growth. It will make me double my efforts and rededicate myself to promoting the growth of the game in the country.

“I dedicate the award to my family for their patience, sacrifice and support, my board members, the national players who have sacrificed so much to bring the game to where it is today and all badminton stakeholders who have supported this board to attain its modest achievements,” he added.

Under Orbih’s leadership, the BFN has organised national championships and also attended international competitions, while partnering the Badminton Association of China to develop Nigerian players and coaches to become some of the best in the world. The BFN also bided and won the hosting right for the All Africa Senior Badminton Championship for the first time in 19 years to be held in Port Harcourt next year.

He has also used his good office to secure kits sponsorship for the national teams, distributed rackets, shuttles and nets to the zones and also ensured the resuscitation of ranking of national players.

The BFN boss also got a donation of the construction of a badminton gymnasium that will accommodate 10 courts, hostel, shops and offices to be located at the National Stadium, among other laudable achievements.
