Federal University Lokoja finish 2nd runner-up Inter-Tertiary Debate in Cotonou

The 6th edition of the Inter-Tertiary Debate Competition which was organized by Impact Africa International, took place in Cotonou, Republic of Benin from 15th to 18th May, 2014 with participants drawn from across three (3) African countries, namely: Zimbabwe, Republic of Benin and Nigeria.

Ten (10) universities were invited, namely: Great Zimbabwe University, Zimbabwe, Lupane State University (LSU), Zimbabwe, GASA UATM GASA –Formation (African University of Technology), Republic of Benin, Les Cours Sonou (LCS) Universite Institute, Universite d’ Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin, University of Lagos, Lagos Nigeria, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria, Adegboyega University, Ogun State, Nigeria and Federal University Lokoja, Nigeria.

The topic of the debate was “The Post-2015 United Nations Development Agenda is Achievable?” Thereafter, an impromptu debate titled “Is there any need for the United Nations?” was thrown to the contestants to either propose or oppose.

The relevance of this impromptu debate was to test the research competence of the contestants with a view to determining their ingenuity in research capability.

Dignitaries and Diplomatic staff of the participating countries graced the occasion. The Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Dr. Lawrence O. Obisakin presented a lecture titled “Youth and Unemployment in the Post-2014 Development Agenda of the United nations.”

Mr. George Ayo and Miss. Amadi Adama Maryann were both 200 level students who represented the University in the contest and they marveled the audience with spectacular performance and show of brilliance.

At the end of the contest, Lupane State University, Zimbabwe came first while the University of Lagos, Nigeria and the Federal University Lokoja, Nigeria came First and Second runners up and were presented with certificates of participation and trophies.
