The Kogi State government, on Thursday, said it had uncovered plans by some Abuja-based politicians to cause crisis, during the one-year anniversary of Governor Yahaya Bello.

It said the people, who met in Abuja over political developments in the state, had already hired youths across the 21 local government areas of the state, to storm Lokoja, the state capital to protest against the ongoing screening exercise in the state.

The Director- General, Media and Strategy to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, who disclosed this in Lokoja, said people involved in the plot were Bello’s loyalists when he was inaugurated on January 27, 2016.

According to him, “the enemies of the state fell out with Bello when he could not grant their request that the resources of the state should go into private pockets.”

“We are also aware that they have recruited young men and women across the 21 local government areas, and paid them N10,000 each to storm Lokoja on January 27 to protest under the guise that some ghost names had been removed from the payroll of government.”

“We are unperturbed by their plans and we want the people to know that Governor Bello is not ready for politics. He will continue to respect party leaders but will not share the commonwealth of the state.

“The governor will not tolerate any act of brigandage from people who parade themselves as party leaders but are working against the interest of the people of the state. We are not going to join issues with them because they are only out to distract the governor from achieving his lofty goals for the people of the state.”

The governor’s aide also stated that the state would have a clean payroll after the appeal committee on the screening exercise had completed its assignment.

He added that government would soon roll out modalities for employment of young men and women of the state into the civil service.
