The Majority Leader who disclosed while speaking with newsmen at the assembly complex on Monday in Lokoja said this would help reduce rancour and acrimonies.

Kolawole pointed out that the 25-member house was made of members from the two major parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 14 and the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 11.

He noted that the any negative publicity could polarise the house along party lines and defeat the essence of their mandate which is to give responsible and able representation aimed at ensuring good governance.

The Majority Leader said his office was open to newsmen to always cross-check information or seek explanations when in doubt to enable balanced reportage.

He noted that the house would not be able to achieve much with contributions of the media and urged: ”Give us your maximum cooperation. Let us work together in peace because we can’t achieve much without the media.

”Get to the root of every information you get and hear from the other party before you publish. Always balance your stories, we don’t want anything that will upturn the peace we have achieved”, he said.

On the recent squabbles in the house over election of principal officers of the house, Kolawole said: We have resolved our differences. We have done our best and we now have obe house.”

It would be recalled that the house was divided against itself on June 4, shortly after the inauguration of the 6th Assembly over nomination and election of leaders.

Ten APC members had faulted the manner in which the Clerk of the house, Mr Simon Momoh conducted the election with allowing members to make more nominations in the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker resulting to a walk out by the aggrieved APC members.
