Saint Peters and Royal Crown who were 2014 runners-up emerged champions after they defeated defending champions Ajaokuta Steel Comprehensive School (ASCOS) 1 36-34, and Teachers Home, Lokoja 15-2 respectively in male and female state finals played at the Basketball Court of Federal University Lokoja.

On Wednesday, the male and female winners beat Abdullaziz Attah Memorial College, Okene 46-21 and Holy Rosary College, Idah 15-10 both in the semi-finals respectively.

Coordinator of the state National Schools Sports Federation, NSSF, Mr Ezekiel Abraham, hailed the improved performance of participating teams, the turn-out of dignitaries and standard of organisation.

Abraham appealed for more funding for Schools Sports to aid the discovery and harnessing of talents and canvassed for early preparation while assuring quality representation at the zonal play-offs.

Ibrahim Musa, the captain and coach Sulieman Kamarudeen, separately admitted their side never dream of beating ‘strong’ former champions ASCOS 1 as they want Saint Peters College ‘to go further’ in the competition.

However, the game master Saliu Thompson and the captain Sunday Ruth both disclosed that Royal Crown have ‘longed for the title’ just as they set sight at ‘reaching the national finals’ in the female category.
