Nigeria Professional Football League Week 6 Reviews: Nasarawa United extend unbeaten run

Nasarawa United have produced arguably the major talking point of match day 6 in the Nigeria Professional Football League after beating Warri Wolves 2-1 to secure their unbeaten record.

Before the match, the Solid Miners had recorded three wins and 2 draws and they knew a trip to Ozoro will test the quality they’ve shown this season.

Interestingly, it was the home team that opened scoring through Uche Ihuarulam’s header in the 21st minute. Warri Wolves took that lead into the break.

When play resumed, both sides created chances but couldn’t find the goal until the 63rd minute when Silas Nwankwo scored to put the visitors back into the contest. The equaliser came after a show of poor defending by the hosts and just when they were hoping to regain the lead, Chinedu Ohanachom scored to put the visitors ahead and eventual seal victory.

The result is the second away win for coach Bala Nikyu’s team and shoots them to the top of the league table.

In Uyo, Sunshine Stars of Akure recorded their first away of the season with a 2-1 victory over Dakkada Football club.

A brace by the in-form Sadeeq Yusuf delivered maximum team for Coach Gbenga Ogunbote’s team that has now secured back to back wins. Yusuf got the party started in the 12th minute with a fine header.

The home team leveled the scored through Jesam Edet but it didn’t take long before Yusuf struck again to seal the win for the Akure Gunners.

After a disappointing 3-1 loss to Rivers United on matchday 5, Heartland picked themselves back up with a 2-1 victory over Akwa United in Owerri. This is the second win for the Naze Millionaires after their 2-0 win over Enyimba on matchday 4.

The result also means Akwa United is still in search of a second win this season. So far, the Promise Keepers have recorded 2 loses, 3 draws and 1 win, a 2-1 victory over Abia Warriors on matchday 3.

In Ilorin, Kwara United continued their fine form at home with a 1-0 win over FC Ifeayin Ubah. Goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe produced top saves to keep the visitors in the game until Olawale Farayola broke the deadlock in the 86th minute to give the Harmony Boys their third win of the season and fifth position on the standings.

Rangers and Lobi Stars played a goalless draw to share the spoils in Enugu while in Okigwe, Abia Warriors extended their winless run with a 0-0 result against MFM Football Club of Lagos.

On Monday, Adamawa United will take on Enyimba, while Wikki Tourists will play Jigawa Golden Stars in Bauchi. On Wednesday, Kano Pillars will clash with Rivers United to wrap-up matchday 6 action.
