NNL: Jatau named new Kogi United head coach, says ‘I’m here to record success’

The management of Kogi United FC have announced former Nigeria Premier League top scorer, Ishaya Jatau as the new Head Coach for the new Nigeria National League season.

Chairman of the Lokoja based club, Abdul Sule while unveiling the former Inwanyanwu Nationale striker said that the appointment of Jatau became necessary in quest to filling the vacuum left by the departure of Fatai Osho last week.

Osho who rejoined the Confluence Warriors mid of last season, had resigned to team up with Crown Fc of Oshogbo.

Abdul Sule expressed optimism in Jatau’s technical abilities to turn the fortune of the club around just as he promised the management commitment for the need support.

“We have been on search for a better coach for us to continue where we stopped with Fatai Osho, I want to tell you that the man new man here was agreed on after a thorough considerations on the applications before us, and I’m sure he will give what we need for the club to get to greater heights and achieve our targets in the coming season.

“Ishaya Jatau is a well known name among the football families in Nigeria and outside, he’s proved his worth as a player, he’s doing a wonderful job as a coach with clubs he’s handled and we are optimistic he would do great things,positively with us, all we need to give him the best if support and pray for Kogi United to excel,” said Sule.

Sule, an ex-international however called for the support of football stakeholders in rally the team to achieve the ultimate in the upcoming NNL season.

While thanking the management for the opportunity to serve the team, coach Jatau asked for total discipline, dedication and commitment from the players and officials to achieve the set goals for the club.

“I’m excited with this fresh challenge, I can see this is already a wonderful football family, I promise you by the grace of God, with everyone’s support, we will record success in the coming season, the technical crew will bring our experience to bear to help the team do well in the league,” Jatau said.

Ishaya Jatau has played for top flight clubs including Raka Rovers of Kano, Arewa Textiles, Kaduna, Inwanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC) of Owerri, ASEC Memosa of Côte d Ivoire, SAS Rabat of Morocco among others.

The 46 years old Jatau has also coached clubs like Heartland FC, Kaduna United, Ranchers Bees, Mighty Jets and DSS FC of Kaduna and others.

Jatau held the top-scorer record in the Nigerian league with 17 goals in the year 1990 for 20 years before Super Eagles captain and then Kano Pillars forward, Ahmed Musa broke the record with 18 goals in the 2009-10 season.
