Akwa United’s new head coach, Zachary Baraje has disclosed that he is looking forward to an exciting experience with the Promise Keepers after he was offered a year contract to handle the club for the next premier league season.
Baraje’s appointment was ratified by the board of the Akwa United on Wednesday after he signed contract papers and said he was thrilled to be given an opportunity to coach the club as he hopes to bring his experience to bear.
The former Enyimba FC coach said he had been briefed about the problems that affected the club’s chances in the Nigeria topflight last season and that he would advise on how better to resolve such conflict from happening so that it doesn’t derail the team’s chances in the domestic campaign.
Baraje pointed out to Goal that the target placed before him is to get Akwa United a continental ticket at the end of the season while hoping the management of the club play their role well too.
“I am happy with the new challenge and I can’t wait enough for the start of the new season,” Baraje told Goal.
“I have been refreshed and ready to face this task again. I have rested and have pondered over few new things that will make me to be successful with my new assignment.
“I won’t promise heavens but with God on my side everything will be fine. I have been given a task of ensuring that the club qualifies for the continent.
“I know that it won’t be a child’s play but everyone must contribute his quota towards ensuring that the dream is actualized.”
Akwa United started last season brightly before slowing down towards the end of the first stanza and were unable to recover owing to backlogs of debts the management owed the players.
