By Humphrey Njoku

Heartland Queens have been drawn to face Kwara Ladies in the opening match of the 2021 NWFL Championship commencing on Wednesday, June 23 at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex in Abuja. The testy and delicately poised encounter holds at 10am.

The draw ceremony inside the NWFL boardroom office on Tuesday and presided over by the coordinator of the championship, Rt. Hon. Margaret Mwuese Icheen ably assisted by the NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Modupe Shabi and the FCT FA personnel will see Adamawa Queens confront Gallant Queens in the last matchday 1 encounters.

Kaduna Queens did not put up presence and therefore considered automatically relegated to the third tier league, NWFL Nationwide and that leaves out one team to join the Kaduna side in the less fancied lower league at the end of the Championship. Two topmost teams will gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership at the football showpiece expected to be keenly contested.

Heartland Queens will on Thursday entertain Naija Ratels in early matchday 2 clash while Kwara will tackle Adamawa Queens.

Friday will be observed as rest day for the five participating teams as they will return to the pitch on Saturday which will see Heartland Queens take on Gallant Queens while Naija Ratels engage Kwara Ladies.

Adamawa Queens will confront Heartland Queens in what actually marks their last match of the championship on Sunday and Gallant Queens face Naija Ratels.

Monday is another rest day for the whole teams and on Tuesday the curtain will be drawn on the Championship with key encounters involving Naija Ratels versus Adamawa Queens and Gallant Queens versus Kwara Ladies. The last day fixtures are most likely going to be played simultaneously at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex and the FIFA Goal Project ground at 10am.

Heartland will have the singular honour to conclude her matches on Sunday and will just wait to know the outcome of the last matches.

The conclusion of the NWFL Championship on Tuesday will officially end the 2020/2021 season.
