Oshoala scores as Nchout and Ajibade’s Atletico Madrid end Barcelona’s 49-match unbeaten run

Rasheedat Ajibade and Ajara Nchout were in action for Atletico Madrid ended Bacelona’s 49-match unbeaten run in the Primera Iberdrola after emerging 4-3 victors despite Oshoala’s effort on Tuesday.

Amanda Sampedro opened the scoring for the hosts at the Estadio Wanda Estadio Wanda Atletico de Madrid Alcala de Henares in the 12 minutes of the encounter.

The Spanish champions, however, bounced back into the mix when Bruna Vilamala struck off an assist from Jana Fernandez seven minutes later.

Vicky Losada set up Oshoala to give the visitors a 2-1 lead for the first time with her 16th league goal of the season in the 39th minute.

13 minutes into the second half, the hosts pushed on to return into the mix and Laurent brilliant finish eventually got them on level terms.

In the 66th minute, red-hot Emelyne Laurent gave Atletico the lead with her second goal of the match to the shock of the champions.

Marta Torrejon netted the equalizer for Barcelona eight minutes later but Deyna Castellanos strike 10 minutes from time sealed the triumph for Atletico.

Besides ending Barcelona’s 49-match unbeaten run in the country’s topflight, it’s also the first league win for Atletico over the Catalonians since February 17, 2019.

Oshoala was in action for the entire duration and ended her seven match drought with her 23rd goal in all competitions for Barcelona this season.

On the other hand, Nigeria’s Ajibade played the opening 45 minutes of the match, while Cameroon’s Nchout saw the final two minutes of the epic victory.

Despite the victory, Atletico are 12 points adrift of the Champions League qualification place with 54 points from 31 matches this season.

While, Barcelona, who already celebrated a treble following a 4-2 Copa de la Reina final win over Levante are champions with 84 points from 29 games.

With five games left to go, Oshoala will hope for more minutes to surpass her 2020 league scoring feat of 20 goals.
