Oyela Queens emerge maiden FCT Women Football League champions

After weeks of soccer action in the nation’s capital, Oyela Queens football club emerged champions of the maiden FCT Women Football League on Saturday.

Oyela Queens triumph after beating Beautiful Tours football club 2-0. The two goals were scored by Wakki Danlami who emerged top scorer of the competition with seven goals which is the first of its kind in the country.

She equally became the most valuable player of the tournament. The champions subsequently carted away two hundred thousand naira, N200, 000 alongside a giant trophy aside the appearance fee received by participating teams that took part during the league.

Second-placed Beautiful Tours were rewarded with One hundred thousand, N100, 000 while Civil Defence football team got Fifty thousand, N50, 000 cheques.

Talking about the reason behind the competition, Director FCT Sports Council, Chief Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma said that the Federal Capital Administration was determined to not only develop sports but to also give Young girls an opportunity to showcase their God-given talents.

Mrs Dilichukwu also enjoined the six area councils leadership to take active part during next’s Women league by making sure they present teams from the council areas.

On their parts, Chairperson of the FCT Football association Barr Victoria Nlemigbo and FCT FA Chairman, Alhaji Musa Talle described the vent as successful while assuring that the association would plan to expand the frontiers of next year’s soccer event.

They, however beckoned on corporate sponsors and spirited Nigerians to identify with the programmes which now has a growing fan base.
