#Pensioners in #Kogi begs Wada to clear N10 billion outstanding gratuity

Pensioners in Kogi State have called on the state government to source for loan to clear over ten billion naira outstanding gratuity owed both the living and deceased pensioners in the state.

The pensioners also asked for the harmonization of their monthly pension to bridge the gap between them and their counterparts who retired on the new minimum wage inview of the current economic realities in the country.

The chairman of the screening committee of pensioners in the state, Onuh Abdullahi who doubles as the leader of the Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners made the call while submitting the report of the committee to Governor Idris Wada yesterday in Lokoja.

The screening committee which was set up by the state government on the 13th of May last year was aimed at ascertaining the authentic number of pensioners in the state.

Abdullahi told the governor that 6,629 pensioners and 648 next of kins of pensioners were screened and captured in course of the exercise.

He commended the state government for its concerned for the plight of pensioners in the state and assured of the pensioners’ cooperation towards the realization of the governor’s transformation agenda in the state.

Receiving the report, Governor Idris Wada thanked the committee members for the good job and assured that government will look into the report with a view to ensuring its implementation.

Wada expressed delight that this development would go along way in solving the problem of ghost pensioners in the state.
