APC reinstates four Senators on 2027 ticket after Primary review, 21 others remain dropped
With about six months to the January 16, 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reinstated four serving senators who initially lost their bids for a the party's senatorial tickets during its primary elections.
The APC conducted its senatorial primaries in May across the country's 109 senatorial districts. Of the party's 80 serving senators, 25 failed to secure tickets, while 55 emerged either as candidates for another term in the Senate or as governorship flag bearers in their respective states.
Among those who secured governorship tickets are Senators Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Ogun West), Aliyu Wadada Ahmed (Nasarawa West) and Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (Oyo South). The remaining successful lawmakers obtained return tickets to contest for re-election to the Senate in the 2027 polls.
However, following a five-week review of the primary election results nationwide, the APC overturned the outcomes in four senatorial districts, restoring the candidacies of Senators Titus Sam (Benue North West), Emmanuel Udende (Benue North East), Adeniyi Adegbonmire (Ondo Central) and Olajide Ipinsagba (Ondo North).
Their inclusion in the party's final list of senatorial candidates means prominent politicians, including former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam and former House of Representatives member Gbenga Elegbeleye, have lost out in the revised exercise.
The latest decision effectively confirms the exclusion of the remaining 21 serving senators who were unsuccessful during the primaries, with no further changes announced by the party.
Those affected are spread across several states, including two senators each from Kwara and Plateau states, and one each from Oyo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Gombe, Kogi, Edo, Niger, Osun, Rivers and Adamawa states.
