Asaba gears up to welcome Nigeria's future sports stars

In a few weeks, the city of Asaba will once again become the heartbeat of Nigerian youth sports. The ninth National Youth Games is set for August 26 to September 6, and if Delta State’s track record is anything to go by, this edition promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

After hosting the last two editions, Delta has become something of a second home for the country’s brightest young athletes. Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, says the mission this year is simple: deliver games that inspire, unite, and raise the bar for youth competition in Nigeria.

The final Joint Technical Meeting over the weekend sealed the deal, schedules confirmed, logistics aligned, and every detail fine-tuned. From August 16, registration will open, followed by zonal eliminations August 16-18, delegate meetings August 19 and 20, and final preparations, all leading to the grand opening of the games.

Behind the scenes, the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) have been combing through facilities, ticking off every requirement for a worthy event.
