Rangers International FC of Nigeria claimed a vital 2-0 victory over Algerian giants MC Algiers in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie in Abeokuta.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Rangers showed resilience to score twice in the closing stages and secure a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg.

Kenneth Igboke opened the scoring in the 84th minute, converting a penalty to give the Nigerian side the lead.

Three minutes later, James Emo doubled Rangers’ advantage in the 87th minute to seal an impressive victory against the Algerian league giants.

However, the Nigerian side will need to maintain their discipline and concentration in Algeria to complete the job and secure qualification.
