Ex-Kwara United defender Arinze Ogbonna joins Libyan top flight club
Former Kwara United defender Arinze Ogbonna Matthew has completed a move to Libyan top-flight side Al-Afreeki Sports Club on a free transfer.
The 21 year old centre-back joins the newly promoted club as he takes the next step in his burgeoning career outside Nigeria, having earned a reputation at Kwara United as the “Minister of Defence” among the club’s supporters.
Standing at 1.97 metres, Ogbonna brings an imposing physical presence to the Al-Afreeki defence. The towering Nigerian is known for his strength, aggression and ability to compete effectively in aerial and physical battles.
Beyond his defensive qualities, Ogbonna is also comfortable in possession and capable of playing out from the back, qualities that could make him an important figure for the Libyan side as they prepare for life in the top flight.
Al-Afreeki will be counting on the Nigerian defender’s defensive awareness, physicality and composure to strengthen their backline and help the newly promoted outfit establish itself among Libya’s elite.
For Ogbonna, the move represents another significant chapter in his development, with the young defender now looking to make his mark on the Libyan football scene.
