Nigeria defender Glory Edet is targeting another major continental milestone as Edo Queens face Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B final in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on Saturday.

A victory would see Edo Queens secure the WAFU-B ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, while Edet would move closer to achieving a remarkable fourth consecutive qualification for Africa’s premier women’s club competition.

Edet, who has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most experienced fullbacks on the continent, has previously represented Bayelsa Queens and TP Mazembe in the Champions League, winning the title with the Congolese club in 2024.

“Every Champions League qualification is special, but this one means a lot to me because I am here with Edo Queens and we have worked very hard to reach this stage,” Edet exclusively told SavidNews.

The 24-year-old defender believes Edo Queens’ difficult group-stage encounter with Ampem Darkoa has given the Nigerian champions valuable lessons ahead of the decisive rematch, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Ghanaian side in their earlier meeting.

“We know what Ampem Darkoa can do because we have played against them already. We respect them, but we have also learnt from that game and we know what we need to improve,” she said.

Edo Queens have otherwise enjoyed an impressive campaign in Burkina Faso, scoring 16 goals on their way to the final, including a 7-0 demolition of AS Garde Nationale, a 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas and a commanding 5-1 semi-final win over hosts USFA.

Edet is now calling on her teammates to approach the final with confidence and maintain their concentration from the opening whistle as they seek revenge and another continental ticket.

“This is a final, so we have to give everything. We cannot think about the previous result; we have to focus on the opportunity in front of us. We want to win the trophy and qualify for the Champions League,” Edet added.

For the experienced defender, the prospect of a fourth straight Champions League qualification would add another significant achievement to a career that has already seen her win Africa’s biggest women’s club prize. 

But the immediate priority remains helping Edo Queens overcome Ampem Darkoa and restore Nigeria’s dominance in the regional competition.

“We are ready for the challenge. We know what is at stake, and we want to make our families, Edo State and Nigeria proud. Hopefully, at the end of the game, we will be celebrating the trophy and our qualification,” Edet said.

The Nigerian champions will therefore be chasing more than the WAFU-B trophy at the August 4 Stadium as a victory over Ampem Darkoa would avenge their group-stage defeat, restoring Nigeria’s pride in the growing Ghana-Nigeria rivalry and send Edo Queens back to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
