Hopper, Lagos legends set for NPBL title showdown in Port Harcourt

Defending champions and hosts Rivers Hoopers will square off against Lagos Legends Basketball Club in a winner-takes-all battle for the 2025 Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL) crown on Sunday.

The decisive showdown at Niger Street, Port Harcourt, will cap an electric three-day Final Four that has delivered intensity, drama, and top-level basketball. Both sides arrive at the finale unbeaten, having dispatched Gboko City Chiefs and Nigeria Customs with authority in their opening games.

With the Chiefs and Customs now left to fight for third place in Sunday’s curtain-raiser, all eyes will be on the grand finale that will determine who lifts the championship trophy.

Standing between Rivers Hoopers and a historic third consecutive NPBL title is a Lagos Legends team brimming with confidence. The Legends famously edged the Hoopers by a single point during the Final Eight last month and have continued that blistering form in Port Harcourt, overwhelming opponents in the last two days.

Hoopers head coach, Ogoh Odaudu, says his side is fully locked in for revenge and ready to avoid a repeat of their previous slip.

“I don’t want to sound too confident, but Lagos Legends beat us by one point in the Final Eight, and I don’t think that should’ve happened because we played terribly that day,” Odaudu said.

“We’re not going to let that happen twice. We’re going to come out really serious and take each quarter as it comes. Every day is a different ballgame, whether it’s the same team or not.”

Beyond the bragging rights and championship prestige, Sunday’s clash carries added weight: the winner will earn Nigeria’s sole ticket to next year’s Basketball Africa League (BAL).
