Kogi-born Godwin Obaje joins Exclusive NPFL Century Club after scoring 100th goal

Rangers International striker Godwin Obaje has entered an exclusive chapter of Nigeria Premier Football League history after scoring his 100th career goal in the Nigerian top flight.

The 30-year-old Kogi-born footballer reached the landmark with an 11th-minute penalty in Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves in a rescheduled NPFL fixture played in Ozoro, Delta State, on September 30.

The milestone makes Obaje only the third player to reach 100 NPFL goals, joining Nigerian league legends Victor Ezeji and Rabiu Ali in the competition’s century club.

Reflecting on the achievement, Obaje said he was delighted to see years of hard work rewarded with a place among some of the most accomplished goalscorers in Nigerian league history.

“I feel very happy to have achieved this. It is something I have worked very hard to achieve,” the Rangers forward said.

Obaje admitted that reaching the 100-goal mark was not something he had specifically targeted when he began his professional career.

“To be honest, I never thought of it. I just felt I should keep working hard to score as much as I can,” he said.

The Rangers striker also expressed pride at having his name mentioned alongside Ezeji and Ali, two players whose careers have become synonymous with Nigerian domestic football.

“I am very happy to be listed among these great legends in the league,” Obaje said.

Victor Ezeji remains the leading scorer among the trio, having finished his NPFL career with 148 goals. The former Sharks, Dolphins and Enyimba striker was also a two-time CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba.

Rabiu Ali, meanwhile, has scored 144 goals and remains active with Kano Pillars. The veteran midfielder continues to add to his tally and has become one of the most enduring figures in Nigerian professional football.

Obaje’s century has been built across five NPFL clubs. He scored 25 goals for Wikki Tourists, 16 for FC Ifeanyi Ubah, one for Plateau United, 23 for Abia Warriors and has now taken his Rangers tally to 35.

His most prolific individual season came with Wikki Tourists in 2016, when he scored 18 goals to finish as the NPFL’s leading scorer and claim the Golden Boot.

The latest landmark adds another chapter to a career that has also seen Obaje remain among the league’s leading marksmen. He finished the 2025/26 NPFL season with 14 goals for Rangers, sharing the Golden Boot tally with Jonathan Mairiga and Victor Mbaoma.

Rangers subsequently honoured the striker ahead of their Matchday Seven clash with Abia Warriors, where the defending champions secured a 3-1 victory at the Awka Township Stadium.

The celebration came after Obaje’s historic penalty had already helped Rangers secure an important away win over Warri Wolves and strengthen their campaign.

hhowever, the 100-goal achievement for Obaje represents more than a statistical milestone. It places him in an exclusive group that reflects longevity, consistency and sustained goalscoring in one of Africa’s competitive domestic leagues.

With his tally now beyond the century mark and still adding goals, the Rangers striker has the opportunity to climb further up the all-time NPFL scoring chart before the end of his career.
