NBBF releases timeline for 2026 Executive Board Elections
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released the guidelines, timelines and modalities for the election of its new Executive Board, with the polls scheduled to hold on October 15, 2026, in Abuja.
The electoral process follows the approval granted by the Extraordinary Congress of the federation, which was held on September 26, 2026, in Yola, Adamawa State.
The Congress approved the establishment of a seven-member Electoral Committee, headed by Dr. Lanre Glover, alongside a three-member Appeals Committee to oversee the electoral process.
The elections will be witnessed by representatives of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
In line with Article 21 of the NBBF Statutes 2019, the composition of the new Executive Board will include the President, Vice-President, six zonal members, as well as representatives of the Referees and Coaches Association.
Other positions include representatives of the Players Union, Military/Paramilitary, Corporate Sponsors, Continental/International Boards, NAWIS and NAPHER.
NBBF 2026 Election Timeline
1. Inauguration of Electoral and Appeals Committees: September 26, 2026.
2. Collection of nomination forms by contestants: September 27, 2026.
3. Submission of completed nomination forms: October 6–7, 2026.
4. Screening, clearance and publication of cleared candidates: October 8–9, 2026.
5. Elections for other affiliate bodies: October 7–14, 2026.
6. Players’ Representatives Election: October 12, 2026.
7. Technical Representatives Election: October 13, 2026.
8. *lSubmission of appeals against Electoral Committee decisions: October 13, 2026.
9. Hearing and release of Appeals Committee decisions: October 14, 2026. The committee’s decision is final.
10. 2026 NBBF Elective Congress: October 15, 2026, in Abuja.
The process will culminate in the October 15 Elective Congress, where the new NBBF Executive Board is expected to be elected.
