NSC Yet to Decide on Federation Board Dissolution as NOC Consultations Continue — Shehu Dikko

By Seun Oyediji

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, says no final decision has been reached regarding the dissolution of the boards of national sports federations ahead of the scheduled elective congresses.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with BSN Sports at the ANOCA Headquarters in Abuja, Dikko explained that ongoing consultations with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and leadership of various sports federations will guide the Commission’s final position on the matter.

“For now, no decision has been taken on whether or not the boards of the federations will be dissolved ahead of their elections,” Dikko stated. “The outcome of consultations between the federations and the NOC will influence what we eventually decide.”

Elections into the boards of 28 sports federations are expected to take place between June 2025 and January 2026. However, concerns over administrative readiness have surfaced, particularly with only 12 of the federations having their constitutions approved by their respective international governing bodies—a key requirement for aligning with global sports governance standards.

The lack of compliance by the majority of federations may weigh heavily on the NSC’s eventual decision on when and how to proceed with dissolutions and elections.

As the window for elections draws nearer, the NSC continues to emphasize the importance of due process, collaboration with the NOC, and adherence to both national and international standards in determining the path forward for Nigerian sports governance.
