NSC constitutes caretaker committee for Nigeria Judo Federation

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the constitution of a six-member Caretaker Committee for the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), pursuant to Section 16 of the National Sports Commission Act, 2023.

The decision follows the dissolution of the Federation’s Board by the International Judo Federation (IJF).

The committee, which takes immediate effect, will serve as a transitional administrative arrangement to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Judo Federation pending the conduct of fresh elections and the inauguration of a duly elected board.

Sheriff Hammed will chair the Caretaker Committee, while Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu will serve as members. Amayo Ngozi has been appointed Secretary.

According to the NSC, the committee is mandated to oversee the day-to-day administration of the Nigeria Judo Federation and facilitate the reforms necessary to place the federation on a sound administrative footing.

Among its specific responsibilities are amending the federation’s constitution to reflect provisions required by the IJF, convening an Annual General Meeting to consider and approve the amended constitution, and organising elections during the transitional period.

The committee will also be responsible for ensuring a smooth and orderly transition to the duly elected board of the Nigeria Judo Federation following the conclusion of the electoral process.

The NSC charged the Caretaker Committee to discharge its responsibilities with diligence, transparency and impartiality, while prioritising the overall interest and development of judo in Nigeria.

The Commission further directed the committee to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective administration and the continued development of judo throughout the transitional period.

The appointment will remain in effect until the electoral process is concluded and the newly elected board assumes office.
