Niger Delta Sports Festival: Akwa Ibom Gears Up as Sports Commissioner Inspects Facilities

With the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival set for April, Akwa Ibom State's Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has inspected key sporting facilities, reaffirming the state's readiness to host the event.

During his visit to the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in Ikot Ada Idem, he toured the football field, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as the medical center and hostels, alongside officials. Bassey commended Governor Umo Eno for supporting the festival, highlighting its potential to showcase Akwa Ibom’s sports infrastructure.

At West Itam Sports Centre, he assessed ongoing rehabilitation efforts, stressing the need for improved security against vandalism. He announced plans for a Stadium Management Committee to safeguard public sports facilities.

Accompanied by senior ministry officials, Bassey expressed confidence in the state's ability to deliver a successful festival from April 1-9, welcoming over 3,000 athletes from the Niger Delta region.
