Nigeria-Ghana Beach Soccer AFCON Qualifier result revised to 3-3 after officials admit error
The first-leg encounter between Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles and Ghana’s Black Sharks in the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) qualifiers has reportedly been revised to a 3-3 draw following an admission of error by the match officials.
The development comes after Nigeria initially appeared to have lost 5-4 on penalties following a 4-4 draw after extra time in Saturday’s encounter in Kaduna.
According to the latest update, the match officials contacted representatives of both teams and explained that the rules of the game must be applied correctly, resulting in the match being recorded as a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time.
Moroccan referee Driss Lamkhaidar reportedly acknowledged the mistake of allowing extra time and a penalty shootout after the teams had finished regulation time level at 3-3.
The revision means the outcome of the first leg has changed significantly, leaving both teams to contest the decisive advantage in the return fixture.
Nigeria’s Isa Hamza Manga had delivered an impressive performance in the encounter, scoring a hat-trick, while Ghana’s Mawuli Sosu scored twice and Wise Nyamadi also found the net.
The revised result leaves the two sides facing another crucial battle in the second leg, scheduled to take place at Keta Beach in Ghana.
The winner of the two-legged qualifying tie will secure a place at the 2026 BSAFCON in Senegal.
Further clarification from the relevant competition authorities would be important to establish the official status of the revised result and the implications for the return leg.
