Nigeria names final 16-man squad for African U-20 Handball Championship
Nigeria’s Under-20 Men’s Handball National Team Head Coach, Emmanuel David, has unveiled the final 16-man squad for the 33rd African Men’s Junior Nations Championship scheduled to take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from September 5 to 12, 2026.
The Nigerian team has been drawn in Group B alongside two-time champions Algeria, Angola and Madagascar.
The youngsters have intensified their preparations at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, as they fine-tune their plans for the continental championship.
The final squad features four goalkeepers in Attahiru Ab Sahabi, Obabori Samuel, Iorngohol Amos and Ganiu Aduragbemi.
Other players selected are Isyaka Mustapha, Kareem Faruk, Akanni Olayinka, Musa Mohammed, Jackson Nelson, Sani Suleiman, Chuks Moses Egwuelu, Yusuf Suleiman, Abaaka Simon, Igwele Emmanuel, Saka Muktar and Oladeinde Oluwasegun.
Coach David Emmanuel will be assisted by Cole Olatunde.
Nigeria will be aiming to improve on its previous performances at the African Junior Nations Championship. The country has won the competition once, claiming the title when it hosted the tournament in Lagos in 1980.
Nigeria has also reached the podium on three occasions, finishing as runners-up in Bauchi in 1984 before securing bronze medals in Cotonou and Marrakech, Morocco, in 2018.
