Paul Onuachu wins Turkish Super Lig golden boot after stellar season with Trabzonspor
Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu has been crowned the Turkish Super Lig top scorer after finishing the 2025/26 campaign with 22 league goals.
The Nigerian forward ended the season level on goals with Istanbul Basaksehir striker Eldor Shomurodov, who converted a penalty against Gaziantep in Sunday’s final round of fixtures to also finish on 22 goals.
Onuachu’s achievement means Nigerian players have now won the Super Lig golden boot in back-to-back seasons. Victor Osimhen claimed the award in the 2024/25 campaign after scoring 26 goals for Galatasaray.
The 31-year-old enjoyed a remarkable turnaround season with Trabzonspor following a difficult spell at Southampton, where he managed just four goals in 28 appearances.
Back in Turkey, Onuachu rediscovered his scoring touch and became one of the league’s most reliable forwards. Across all competitions, he registered 24 goals and two assists for Trabzonspor.
The campaign stands as the second-best scoring season of his career, behind only his prolific 2020/21 outing with Belgian side Genk, where he recorded 35 goals and six assists in 41 matches.
His goals played a major role in Trabzonspor’s strong title challenge, although the club eventually finished second on 69 points, eight behind champions Galatasaray.
Despite missing out on the league title, Onuachu still has the opportunity to end the season with silverware when Trabzonspor take on Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup final on Friday.
