Semi Ajayi is set for another spell in the English Premier League after Hull City secured promotion with a dramatic victory over Middlesbrough in the Championship Playoffs final at Wembley Stadium.
Hull City edged Middlesbrough 1-0 thanks to a stoppage time winner in front of more than 84,000 spectators, completing a remarkable return to the top flight nine years after suffering relegation from the Premier League.
The Tigers, who finished sixth during the regular Championship season, produced a disciplined and determined display in the final, with Ajayi playing a key role at the heart of defence.
The experienced Nigerian centre back helped marshal an organised backline that frustrated Middlesbrough throughout the contest.
Middlesbrough had reached the playoff final following the expulsion of Southampton over allegations of spying on opponents, but they were unable to overcome Hull City’s resilience on the grand stage.
Ajayi, who previously featured in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, now looks forward to another opportunity to compete among England’s elite clubs next season.
