Super Sand Eagles roster for Ghana AFCON Qualifiers unveiled
The Nigeria Beach Soccer National Team, Sand Eagles, have intensified preparations for next month’s CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash against Ghana’s Black Sharks, with all 20 invited players now in camp.
The team has spent the past week undergoing intensive tactical and technical sessions at the Murtala Muhammed Square Sports Complex in Kaduna under the supervision of Coach Christopher Kadiri.
Head Coach Abdullahi Isa is currently with the U17 boys’ national team, Golden Eaglets, which is preparing for next month’s WAFU-B U17 Championship in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The Sand Eagles will host Ghana in the first leg of the qualifying tie in Kaduna on Saturday, October 10, before travelling to Accra for the return fixture on Saturday, October 17.
Nigeria returned to the international beach soccer scene two years ago after several years away but narrowly missed out on qualification for the CAF Beach Soccer AFCON hosted by Seychelles, losing to Mauritania on the away-goal rule.
The winner of the two-legged encounter between Nigeria and Ghana will secure a place at this year’s CAF Beach Soccer AFCON finals, scheduled to hold in Senegal from October 7 to 15.
As part of their preparations, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approached the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football to arrange a couple of friendly matches between the Sand Eagles and the Senegalese national team, the perennial African champions.
